Homestudy

Well, we have officially started our home study! On Tuesday of last week we had our first meeting with our caseworker Kelly. We met for like three hours. She shared a lot of information with us, like we would be able to change our babies name to whatever we want, and about meeting the birth mother. She gave us a bunch of stuff to read before our next meeting, which is June 8. She also told us that she didn't think that we would have that long of a wait because of our openness to Biracial, and African American children. That was very exciting to us. She obviously cant give us any certain time table but she made it sound like being placed this year wasn't unreasonable! She told us some of the different things that we needed to have ahead of time, like a car seat and some clothes for both genders and also a bed and diapers, bottles and formula. Just the stuff we need in case they call us and we don't have much warning! She also talked with us about getting the rest of the financial stuff together as they will not place a child with us until we have all of that taken care of. We are looking into different grants and also some loans that are specific to adoption. The only thing holding us back is we cannot officially apply for any of them until after our home study is complete. Once we get back from our trip to NY for Kurt and Laurens wedding I (Angie) am going to start filling them all out so that as soon as our home study is complete I can send them all in. We have been kept busy as we have been finger-printed this week and are working on getting a local background check done and then a ton of others background checks. We also have three meetings in June for the home study, two of them in Indy. We have gotten our references out to everyone I think and then the only really big thing left to do ( other then the whole money thing) is to make a "dear birth mother letter" and our profile that will be shown to the birth mothers who will pick us to be their babies adoptive parents!
We are so excited but often overwhelmed! So much to do and hmmmm...not really sure how much time to do it in, maybe a little maybe not. This isn't good for my planning, mapped out perfectionist nature, but it is good for the part of me that is working on trusting that God will have it all ready in His timing! He hasn't failed anyone yet and I doubt He will start on us!! We covet your prayers as we go through this time! We look forward to seeing many of you in a few weeks at Kurt and Lauren's wedding!
